PAR is a program that supports a teacher peer assistance and review system and the coordination of employment policies and procedures with activities for professional development.

The Peer Assistance and Review program offers our district and our union an opportunity to become partners in advocacy as;

  1. BulletAdvocates for the profession,

  2. BulletAdvocates for students and their success in the classroom,

  3. BulletAdvocates for quality teaching and professional development.

With this vision in mind the PAR committee would like to encourage professional development by offering grants for conferences and workshops that would add to the quality of our teaching.

The purpose of the Peer Assistance and Review (PAR) Program is to provide quality support and assistance to new and veteran teachers. The program ensures the best apprentice teachers earn tenure in the district and that veteran teachers receive assistance as needed. The outcome is superior instruction for students in the Edison School District.

The PAR Joint Committee consists of five members; three members of the committee are certificated classroom teachers and the other two members are administrators chosen by the District’s superintendent. A chairperson is assigned by the committee; this position rotates between Association and District.

The PAR Joint Committee selects Consulting Teachers for the Peer Assistance and Review Program. Consulting Teachers are selected to guide participating teachers by using a variety of avenues including demonstrating, observing, coaching and conferencing. Referred teachers, as well as teachers that volunteer, are provided assistance by a Consulting Teacher.
